While watching Week 3 of the 2024 NFL Season yesterday, I was focused on the San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams match yesterday and after watching the game, I had to take a few moments when a thought came into my mind regarding what it means to be grateful to what you have accomplished in life.
I say this because I look at the 49ers as an example at the fact that many people expect them to get a sixth Super Bowl trophy this year. While I would like to see that happen as they have not a Super Bowl since I was in kindergarten, I have to take a good look at the big picture because as an organization, the 49ers have won a total of 5 Super Bowls and 8 NFC Championships.
When I take a look at this, I have to say to myself that while we all want to see the 49ers succeed, it’s important to acknowledge that as an organization they have a lot to be proud of. Like all professional sports, people tend to take things far too personally and feel like their life depends on it, which of course, is not true.
In fact, I consider the San Francisco 49ers a very fortunate NFL franchise with a lot of success along with other teams like the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. Just because you are successful doesn’t mean you are going to get everything you want in life. There are also some NFL franchises that have never made it to earning a Super Bowl or a Conference Championship like the Detroit Lions or the Jacksonville Jaguars.
As I have said before in the past, being successful is not judged by the amount of trophies we win, but just by building character and being humble about others around us. In the National Football League, I sometimes tend to view the Super Bowl as like an extra plate of mashed potatoes as you don’t always have to view the Lombardi Trophy as the ultimate prize.

Just getting to the Super Bowl is just as good as winning it and all San Francisco 49ers fans had to learn that last year when they fell short in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs again. In fact, winning the Super Bowl can also result in the champions to get the realization that just because you are Super Bowl Champions, you will get all the fame and fortune you desire and when you get more, you tend to forget what is important.
The sad thing is that many people judge teams by how many championships they win or how we try to make our business stand out to the higher ups in retail as an example. If only people and organizations can just be grateful that you earn the right to play in a sports championship game or get a major accomplish in education or employment when there are plenty of others that never even get the right to do so. Sometimes we also set our expectations too high and as they always say that the higher we go, the harder we fall in the end.
