Oh, boy…this is going to be interesting, I will say.

As many of you know, I am someone who has a soft spot for classic films, especially those made by Disney. A while back, I talked about why the Disney Live Action remakes should not be viewed in schools and that the originals should be. When I first heard that Disney was doing a live action adaptation of the movie that helped build Disney into the business that it is today, I couldn’t help but say that I wasn’t going to pay one cent to see this version and I stand by that decision.

If you saw my blog about the Disney Live Action Remakes, then you also see that I feel that these remakes give the originals a bad name. When it comes to “Snow White” however, there are some stories that should be left alone and “Snow White” is one of them.

For one thing, the actress who is supposed to play Snow White, Rachel Zeigler, clearly has a lack of respect for something as great as a character as Snow White, by saying that the Prince is a stalker and that Snow White should be a strong willed dependent young woman.

What makes the original “Snow White” so great was that Snow White herself had her flaws and simply longed for a better life away from her evil stepmother, the Evil Queen. You didn’t see her fight anyone, you saw that she could be firm when needed (such as when she orders the Dwarfs to wash for dinner), you saw that she cared for the Seven Dwarfs like they were her own brothers (especially Dopey). In a way, Snow White is a very accurate portrayal of someone who is good hearted, but has flaws.

In the case of Rachel Zeigler, she is already someone who is going to portray Snow White as someone who goes entirely against her character. Instead of showing her weaknesses and expressing romance, she’s going to be a strong willed independent woman. Kids these days need to learn that you need to make mistakes, you need to understand the importance of dreaming and by doing so, you are growing up into the person you want to be.

But what really gets me is when she says that it’s not 1937 anymore and in her mind, people need to move on to modern day adaptations of classic films like “Snow White.” Well, let me be perfectly clear about something: I watch classic movies because most of them are better than most films nowadays who are just in it for the money and that they are factory produced and no care is put into them. But it’s further proof that Disney is not the same as what I grew up in the 1990’s.

As an added bonus, they aren’t even having the Seven Dwarfs featured in the title and instead will just have seven various people in various cultures and backgrounds. As I have said before, I am passionate about diversity, equality and inclusion. This is not how it is done. You don’t take characters that everyone loves and turn them into something else.

Recently, the son of the original film’s director, David Hand, came out and condemned the remake as bowing down to political pressures and trying to be more DEI based when they are really not. In fact, I’ve actually lost a great deal of respect for Disney because of all their live action adaptations of their animated films. To them, it’s all about the money and that is not how you do it. Remember, money is the root of all evils and you can’t let someone be driven by money to make something that won’t appease everyone.

The upcoming live action remake of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is just another example of Disney falling further and further from grace and that remaking and changing the story of their films is okay when they are better off left alone.

Today’s generation needs to be introduced to the classics because they hold far better lessons and can have a longer lasting impact. It’s up to us to see that through!! Remember that classics can be just as good, if not better, than modern day adapatations.

Catch you all later!!
