It may seem hard to believe, but this week marks the 2nd birthday of “Going the Disantce” and let me tell you that a lot has happened since then.
For one thing, “Going the Distance” has garnered a numerous amount of recognition that involves going beyond the borders of Southern New England. As of last fall I have now partnered with the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism as a Flutie Fellow and through my appointment as a Flutie, I have already managed to open doors that I would otherwise not have been able to.
Of course, being involved with the Flutie Foundation gave me the opportunity to go out into the community through deliveries from Jersey Mike’s. But most importantly, I am working with Flutie to try and secure more paid speaking gigs (both in person and virtually) as well as more community involvement. One of our upcoming events is this August up at Fenway Park in Boston where Flutie will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a star studied concert.

The other major highlight of the past year was being named to the Board of Directors for the Unicorn Children’s Foundation, although it certainly wasn’t easy at first. When I joined the board at UCF, there was a lot of animosity and angst that almost made me want to give up easily. But I didn’t, and I kept going. Now, we are planning to open a school in Boca Raton this summer and it’s a tremendous honor for me to be a part of this milestone.

Lastly, over at Autism Tree, we are currently celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2023, which kicked off with their VIP Cocktail Reception on Wednesday April 12th. I also recently had the honor of being involved in another lunch and learn session on May 17th where I showed off some of my presentations that I hope to present in the not-too-distant future, such as a presentation on School Assemblies and their overall impact on neurodiverse students.
As for where “Going the Distance” goes from here, what I would like to possibly do at some point in the future is to do in person conferences and trainings outside the United States. The countries that I prefer to present in are Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland on account that I cannot speak any foreign language, but it’s always a good idea to be flexible and open minded because you may never know when an opportunity will pop up. I would also like to try and do more speaking engagements with other organizations such as the Council for Exceptional Children and the Association for People Supporting Employment because I feel that my presentations live up to their respective missions. Who knows? It doesn’t hurt to try, right?
…
As always, feel free to reach out to me if you would like to have me speak at your next event or training and with your support, Going the Distance can thrive to the next level as it advances into it’s third year of supporting neurodivergent individuals, families, educational institutes and employers.
