The picture above may be hard to look at, but it is important. A student in Flager County, FL savagely beaten up his teacher on account of having his Nintendo Switch being taken away during class.
Now, let’s be real, I am not a fan of seeing children being disciplined in my presence. I see this a lot in my day job and everyday life, but discipline is there for a reason because it molds children into adults. When I was in school, discipline was frequently used either on a student, or a group of students.
Sure, it was uncomfortable at times to be in a disciplinary situation, but the teachers and administrators had a responsibility to mold students into productional members of society. But, if there was one thing I noticed greatly, was that no student retaliated against a teacher or administrator.

One of the problems that I see a lot in today’s generation is the fact that there is no self-control and no understanding of consequences of their actions. This was on full display not too long ago where a student felt like he needed to harm his paraprofessional because his video game was taken from him by the said paraprofessional.
I can’t really blame teachers and school personnel for having a sense of fear of going into teach students every Monday through Friday, because it doesn’t have to be a fearful job. Being a schoolteacher is much more than just teaching a group of students several times a day, it’s also a job where you make a living.

Let’s look at the situation…was the paraprofessional in the right to take the game away? Of course! The student should not have had the game out in the first place because it was distracting to the learning process as a whole.
When I was going to school in the early 2000’s, the one major issue was cell phone usage. Sometimes I would witness teachers and administrators taking away cell phones, almost as several times a day. The one difference between then and now was that we knew that when we had our phones taken away, we knew that we could not fight back because we knew who was in charge.
Another factor I notice between my time in school and school today, was that now a lot of parents are giving their children cell phones as young as 1st grade. I get that perhaps some parents feel like they need to be in constant contact with their children, and children seemingly feel that they have a right to have a cell phone out at any point of the school day and if they get the feeling their rights are violated, then they can blame the teacher as the bad guy.
…
In other words, some schools are becoming dangerous to work at because students feel that they can get away with behavior like this. This should not have to be the case and if the student commits something like bringing in a cell phone or handheld game into school, then the student loses the device for the remainder of the school day. If they retaliate, then they are expelled without any question.
…
In conclusion, this galls me because a lot of teachers that I had are still in the profession while most have already retired, and I will be damned if I hear that one of them ends up like this paraprofessional. Schools do not have to be a dangerous place to be at, but if something isn’t done such as teaching today’s generation that actions have consequences, then it will slowly become dangerous as time goes on for both teacher and student.
