I’m pretty sure many of you out there are living with a sense of fear with what has been going on in the news lately. I, myself, have also been feeling a sense of unease about what is happening with Russia and its demonic prince of evil, Vladimir Putin. In the one year since this madman invaded Ukraine, there has been nothing but fear, anger and unease of what the future holds in our lives.

For the past year, we have seen in the media the people of Ukraine and especially neurodiverse/disabled individuals over there fall prey to what has been happening. It’s been all over every single form of media: television, internet, social media, you name it.
As a neurodiverse/disabled human being, my heart goes out to everyone affected, especially since I know someone from Unicorn Children’s Foundation who was adopted from Ukraine as a child. I will confess that I don’t look at war torn pictures of the war in Ukraine because it is extremely upsetting to me.
But even if I don’t look at, I can feel the sadness for both the Ukranian and the Russian people who were opposed to this invasion to begin with.

But the continued problem is once again, how the news media is portraying and interpreting the situation to the point where individuals, especially neurodiverse individuals are feeling nothing but fear.
From the past quick glances of what I see on the internet, the news media is once again trying to instill fear that we are at the end of life as we know it.

Just this morning, my mom and I were having a conversation about this and while there is nothing we can do to stop what is happening, the only thing we can do for our mental health and well-being is to try and not listen to the news reports of what is going on overseas. I will confess that once again, my dad is very addicted to Fox News and every time my mom sees him watching it, she asks him to turn it off.
If there is anything important we need to know, then we will learn about it because that is what concerns us in the end. There is really no use in getting overly worked up over something we cannot control. If someone tries to brainwash you into believing that the sky is falling down because of what is going on in Russia, just ignore them.
Our human nature tends us to believe the first thing we see is something that will bring about the end of humanity as we know it. We cannot let our human nature dictate to believe everything we hear is doom and gloom.

Lastly, it’s critical to once again remember that there is a lot more good in the world than bad, but we just don’t see it because we are so blinded by the bad. Try and think of the good that goes on in the world around you, not the bad. If you have to see something out of the Russian/Ukraine conflict, try and focus on the good things that come out of it. For as a wise voice once said:
