Picking up where I left off in the previous blog, I continue to offer tips on how to help disabled/neurodiverse individuals navigate today’s viral society by talking about how to use the internet properly.

Now, this blog is a little personal to me considering that I have done stupid things via internet that I wish I never did (posting things that I shouldn’t have posted; violating other people’s boundaries and not even realizing it until it is too late, etc.). In today’s society, everything is judged on the internet and a person, place, or thing’s reputation can live or die on the internet.
Unfortunately for myself, given that most of my work is done remotely, had I gotten the proper self-understanding growing up, maybe I wouldn’t have done the things I did to others.
The truth of the matter is that a lot of disabled/neurodiverse individuals just don’t know what to do with their free time or they choose to live a life that is staring at a computer screen. For some, they may not have a choice, but for others, it is their choice.
I will confess that some of the people I have met in the community who are neurodiverse/disabled and who have shady backgrounds do in fact choose to live their life staring at a computer screen.

But it didn’t have to be this way for me. After several incidents where I unintentionally violated the boundaries of some people, I had to take a good look at myself in the mirror and say to myself that if I am going to be a respectful member of the community, I needed to treat the internet as a tool and less like a luxury.
Nowadays, I only use the internet for the purpose of “Going the Distance,” watching videos on YouTube, my fanfiction writing and nothing more. In a way, the internet can turn people into monsters whereas I once again bring up the “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” mantra again. It would turn me from Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde and that is not the person that I want to be.
I know I am better than what I have done in the past and to those whose boundaries I have unintentionally violated on the internet, all I can say is I continue to apologize for what I have done.
