As many of you know, this month I was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Unicorn Children’s Foundation in Boca Raton, FL. While it is an honor to be on the board of directors, it’s something that I never take for granted as a neurodiverse individual.

The truth of the matter is that even though it doesn’t pay to be on the board, I go into this new role with the mindset that it is a job that instead of getting paid, I pay it forward. There is nothing wrong with Paying it Forward and in fact, I learned a long time ago that it is better to give than to receive. This is the case more than often in today’s society where Diversity, Equality and Inclusion is almost non-existent in a variety of areas.
No area that is more promoting of DEI is in Special Education and that’s one of the areas that an organization like Unicorn Children’s Foundation thrives on, providing a specialized education for students with developmental differences. Many families affected by special education are often forced to deal with an educational environment that is uncomfortable and sets the student up for failure. What is worse of all, is that students in special education that have a bad education or classroom experience ends up either unemployed or being employed in a position that they don’t want to be in.
While there are many specialized schools out there, it can be hard for families to choose what is best for their child. Believe me, I’ve been there and while I was never in a specialized school during my education, I was in a specialized classroom and bringing that experience to the board of directors is just another example of telling my story.

But, at the end of the day, the real audience we are reaching out to as a Board of Directors is the community of Boca Raton and the neurodiverse/disabled communities around the country and around the globe. Our mission is to provide a specialized education and job training that will help individuals grow and learn at their own pace.
As of this blog, Unicorn Children’s Foundation has served individuals in most of the United States and in several Canadian provinces.
Our goal is to reach out to the entire United States because neurodiversity and disability does NOT focus on the markets that I serve with “Going the Distance” or Unicorn’s, it’s everywhere and hopefully being on the board allows both myself and UCF to take that next step in making the impact that we both want to make!!

Catch you all later!!
