David Sharif (1997-2022)
As many of you in the community know by now, we lost one of our most respected and dedicated members over the weekend to an epileptic seizure and I lost not just a great colleague, but someone who I considered a friend and a younger brother.
…
David Sharif was a young man that would stop at nothing to ensure that his story growing up on the autism spectrum was told by any means. He was someone who loved to talk about his experiences and would do it either remotely or in person.
Diagnosed at 2 years old, his family was told that he would never amount to anything, but like a lot of successful individuals on the spectrum, he proved them wrong, becoming valedictorian of his graduating high school class in 2015 and later bec0ming a successful public speaker and job coach.
….
But perhaps David’s most successful trek was of course, being active in the autism/neurodiversity community. I first met David through the Global Autism Project and during that time, we not only became close colleagues not just as moderators for the Might Networks platform, Autism Knows No Borders, but also like brothers.
We both had similar backstories and backgrounds along with similar goals to share our story by any means necessary. In fact, you might say our working relationship was similar to Maverick and Goose in “Top Gun” (1986).
…
In fact, David and I had planned to meet in person for the first time this year at some point. We were both looking forward to that day, but it seems like God had other ideas for him. We also were putting together events for the Global Autism Project’s Mighty Networks community, which sadly will never come to pass.
…
Right now, my thought and prayers go out to his parents, Karen and Syud and his older brother, Ben along with the rest of his family and friends around the world.
Rest in Peace David and Fly High
