Blog #192: A Look at Council for Exceptional Children and Why It’s My Laboratory for my Educat

Writer's picture: Jeffrey SnyderJeffrey Snyder

For the past few weeks, I have done two presentations for a special education organization called the Council for Exceptional Children, which is one of the nation’s premiere sources for Special Education resources. Although all three of my scheduled presentations with them are the same presentation “School Safety Drills and Autism,” I am looking to present my other presentations, “School Dances and Autism” and “Autism and Bullying” at their events in the future.

Now, the reason I bring up something like the Council for Exceptional Children is because part of my audience revolves around special education and education in general. One part of the alpha triangle of “Going the Distance” is education because as many of you know, I grew up on an IEP and had lived through such experiences as School Safety Drills.

What I like about the Council for Exceptional Children is that, like a lot of similar organizations, is that they are willing to listen to all voices in the field of education such as a teacher or even a student. Plus, as a Public Speaker, I have come to view CEC as like a laboratory for my education presentations.

Now, when I say laboratory, I don’t mean the literal sense of the word laboratory. I mean that you can take an audience who attends a CEC event and see what they like and don’t like about my presentation. So far, I’ve done virtual presentations with two out of their three branches in Arizona and North Carolina with Michigan coming up later this week.

One presentation has been successful with Arizona while the other in North Carolina was not a success based on audience participation and my overall performance as a speaker.

After each presentation, it’s always a good idea for me to go and evaluate my performance because what if I end up presenting for a public school of teachers and administrators? Would they like to see me on the level as Arizona or the level as North Carolina? You see, I try to perform up to a standard that is world class at all times.

But the CEC is an organization that has already served as like my testing ground for not just my audience, but for myself as well. I’ve been grateful to have had the opportunity to present at their virtual events as of recent and I look to more opportunities with them in the future.

So, if you are member of the Council for Exceptional Children and are looking for any engaging speakers for your conferences and trainings, please let me know and I will be happy to present for your branch.

Catch you all later!!
