As I have stated before in my previous blogs, working from home has a lot of benefits for those that would much rather do so because of a variety of reasons such as mental health or a physical illness. But there are those who have a good reason to work from home such as if they are a public speaker like myself who has their own main business.

I’m happy to announce that at the time of writing this blog, I have accepted a work from home customer service job that will allow me to do what I do to serve you…the autism/neurodiversity and disability communities. I won’t go into too much detail about it so as to not get ahead of myself, but it’s with an organization that contracts individuals for various companies in the financial, retail and hospitality services.

Getting back to the point of this blog, I bet there are a lot of you out there reading this blog that are saying “Why would I want to work from home? What’s wrong with working in an office? What will people think of me? Working from home is for those who are anti-social?”

Let me tell you that using social media does not have the same value as face-to-face interaction. I should know, social media was sometimes not always beneficial to me, but it also turned me into Mr. Hyde at times.
If working from home requires social media use, I would focus social media on that particular work from home job. I already decided to strictly use social media for “Going the Distance” and it’s worked out fine for me so far. That way, you can keep yourself out of trouble and maintain a sense of dignity.

The truth of the matter is, working from home is nothing that should be feared just because it is not inclusive in any way, we can be included in a virtual environment. It’s already being done even long before the pandemic started in a way. But it’s up to us to embrace working from home as a form of inclusion and we have a long way to go to fully embrace the idea.
